About Mike
With over 26 years of service in law enforcement and public safety, Mike Worden has established himself as a leading authority in the field, culminating in his tenure as the Chief of Police for the Medicine Hat Police Service. On his retirement in May 2022, Mike transitioned his expertise into the realm of private security and consulting, founding and presiding over Vital Asset Risk Management, a limited partner of Westbridge Ventures Canada LP.
Commencing his career with Calgary Police Service, Mike served in several capacities ranging from Patrol Constable to specialized roles in the Tactical Unit. His leadership acumen saw him ascend to strategic roles, including Inspector of the Real-Time Operations Centre and the Human Resources Operations Section. He further held roles as Superintendent for the Community Policing North Division, Executive Officer for the Chief of police and Chief Human Resources Officer for the Calgary Police Service.
In 2021, Mike's appointment as the Chief of Police for the Medicine Hat Police Service marked a significant milestone. In his role, he significantly advanced initiatives like the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan, while pioneering the Indigenous Reconciliation Action Plan, and leading a holistic review of the Service's wellness programs.
A University of Calgary alumnus, Mike possesses a Bachelor's in Physical Education and a Master's in Strategic Studies. His dedication to continuous professional development is evident in his participation in leadership initiatives, including the Senior Management Institute for Police and the Executive Development Program at the Canadian Police College.
